Students in East Baton Rouge Parish Schools are getting ready to go back to class on Thursday, August 7. This year, the school district is making some big changes to the Baton Rouge school bus system. The goal is to make buses faster and safer for students.
Superintendent LaMont Cole said, “We want to make sure all families get the best and safest bus service.”
What’s New for Baton Rouge School Bus Routes?
New School Start Times
Six schools will start at different times as part of a special test program. This helps buses stay on time.
Families Can Opt-Out of Bus Service
If a family doesn’t need the bus, they can tell the school. This helps make room for others and shortens routes.
No More Door-to-Door Pickups
Some kids will need to walk to a nearby bus stop in Baton Rouge instead of getting picked up at home. This will help buses stay on schedule.
No Bus Service If You Live Close to School
If a student lives less than one mile from school, they will not get bus service. This is a state law, and the school district will now follow this rule.
The District Will Listen to Baton Rouge Families
Superintendent Cole said the district will look at special cases. “We want to help families, and we will try to solve problems when we can,” he said.
What Parents Need to Do? Parents should check their child’s bus stop information before the first day of school. If they have any problems, they can call the Baton Rouge Schools Transportation Hotline at 225-226-3784.
As the new school year begins, let’s work together to keep our children safe on the way to and from school. Always watch for school buses, follow speed limits in school zones, and remind kids to stay alert at bus stops.
